Gili Trawangan/Lombok The island of Lombok, located to the east of Bali, is rich in terms of culture and natural beauty. It offers an array of beautiful tropical beaches, a great variety of landscapes with a volcanic mountain and some of the most spiritual sights in Indonesia. The Gili Islands in the north west of Lombok feature three small, coral fringed islands, Gili Air, Gilli Meno and Gili Trawangan. Gili Trawangan with 2 x 3km in size it is the largest, most developed and most popular of the three. All three islands feature superb, white sandy beaches, crystal clear water, coral reefs, and some the best snorkeling and diving to be found anywhere on Bali and Lombok. Visitors from all over the world are attracted to the simple pleasures of sun, snorkeling, diving, beautiful beaches, and socializing. The absence of cars, motorcycles, and hawkers adds greatly to the leisure of staying on the Gilis – although there is now a wide range of accommodation available, the islands have maintained the lazy rustic charms of a tropical paradise. While Gili Trawangan has picked up the reputation of being something of a party island, you will be sorely disappointed if you come here expecting Goya style beach raves. In fact, despite a few low-key “parties” which are occasionally held some of the bars in the southern part of the island, Gili Trawangan is so laid back it is virtually horizontal. |
