Praslin lies 37km North East of Mahé and is accessible by boat in one hour or by air in 15 minutes. This extremely lush island measures only 10x4 km, yet in this limited space it has richness and variety. Praslin though small, is the second largest island in the Seychelles and is well worth some exploration. It is also the ideal place from which to visit many of the stunningly beautiful offshore islands. Much of the interior is virtually virgin forest with the beautiful Vallée de Mai National Park, declared an UNESCO World Heritage Site; home of the endemic Coco de Mer palms.
The Coco de Mer palms carry the world's largest nuts, and when its outer shell is removed, the nut looks amazingly like a woman's pelvis. The "male" part of the tree looks appropriately phallic, leading to predictable iconography to signify ladies and men's restrooms. (Certainly a useful piece of information!)
Go and take a look at the supposedly most beautiful and most photographed beach in the world - Anze Lazio!
